Default Transmission Problems.

Just built my transmission in my 94 auto supra. I sent out the valve body but did the rebuild on the transmission myself.(This could be the problem) I put back together just the way it come out. Just replaced the clutches and sprag and o-rings and the other stuff that comes in the kit. And also put a 3800 stall in there to. When i start the car it automaticly goes into first gear and stays in first no matter weather the shifter is in park netural or reverse. It is always in first gear after it starts running. When I shut the car off the car will go into park, and hold. Go into netural and move back and forth. When you start the car boom it goes into drive.

I think that is something in the valve body sending fluid to the first gear clutches. But what get me is you would think that when the car is put into reverse it would like line lock, but it does not. Its in drive all the time.

Any suggestions.

Firstly, I'd question weather the lever position sensor is reading correctly ? - it shouldn't start when in gear !

Yeh thats a bit worrying, either back track over what youve done or get gearbox specialist to have a look

The lever position should be in the right position because when the car is off it goes into park and holds, then switch into netural and it rolls. But that is only my thought. Something has to be sending fluid pressure to first gear all the time no matter what.

I also thought maybe the AEM went into a default and did that. So I disconnected the battery, drained the power and reconnected and it is still doing the same thing.

I think I have figured it out guys. I went back through the book and I seen a spot I did not really did not see before. (very critical part). I dont think the shifter linkage is touching the valve body. Which make since why no matter what gear the shifter is in it is not moveing the valve in the valve body .

Going to find out in the morning. Going to drop the pan and hopefully fix the problem. Pray for me. LOL.

That was it guys. The plunger was not hooked up to the lever inside the transmission. When I went through the gears it stuck the plunger in low gear and would not move out of low gear.

Thanks for all the help.

Guys I went and had car tune and ran 430hp on pump, and they did not do torque reading at about 18psi. Then tune on race fuel at 26psi and made 493hp and 386foot pounds of torque.

I was not really happy with the numbers but it is safe.

And best of all the transmission I built held with no clutch smell after any of the runs.
