Default Heater & Fuse Box

Hi all,

Before I reel of my questions I'd just like to say hi! I own a 1995 j-spec na supra in MSB (not all people like I know).

I have owned the car now for about 3 months, now that winter is setting in I am having to use the heaters...however I only get 'normal' temperature coming out.

I went to check the fuses at the weekend but can only locate the engine bay fuse box!?!? Can someone tell me where the interior fuse box is? (a pic would be great)

If it turns out not to be the fuse what could the problem be?

Cheers

The interior fuse box is above the drivers side kick panel. Unfortunately the best way to see it is to put your head in the footwell and look upwards.

However if things are blowing and controls are illuminated then I doubt it's a fuse. What exactly do you mean when you say 'normal' temperature?

Is it when you turn the controls to hot, you only get luke warm air, or when you turn them to cold the air is not very cold?

Thanks for the quick reply.

At very best the temperature only gets to luke warm when set to 30.

What could the problem be?

It's most likely a blocked heater matrix. With the age of these cars now it's becoming more and more of a common problem.

The best way to check is to find the two heater hoses on the bulk head going into the interior and feel how hot they are when your car is up to temperature and the heater is on hot.

In theory they should be much the same temperature, but if you can feel a significant difference between the two then you either have a blocked heater matrix or air in the system.

Do you ever hear any gurgling noises from behind the dash when you're driving?

Can't say I do hear any noises no.

What's the cure for a blocked system?

Well if you're lucky you'll be able to take the two hoses off and back flush the matrix, to clean it out.

If that doesn't work then you'll have to change it, which unfortunately is a big job requiring the dash to come out.

I don't have any great pictures of this area, but here's one.

It's the two large pipes on the top of the engine, but in the case of our RHD cars they travel to the right of the engine (looking from the front) not the left as in the pic.

Cheers guys.

Is there a guide online anywhere about how to flush the system? or to empty all water/coolant and refill?

Cheers
