Smile Does Anyone know these cars? I need advice!

Hi All, im looking for a UK Spec at the moment...

Does anybody know this car below:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...1501?logcode=p

its tidy enough on the outside but engine bays a bit messy with pitting and blue pipping that all looks a bit dodgy. theres a very small rattle coming from the engine although on test driving it goes ok with both turbos coming in smooth and powerful, theres no active spoiler but all else seems to works.

ALTERNATIVELY there this one:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1687417.htm

which I have yet to see but looks mint!

A niggling thought ive got is should I go for a Tidy UK spec with quite high miledge or a jap spec with low miledge...any input or advice would be appreciated!

I don't recognise the silver one, but then i'm still trying to find the body kit that they're advertising

From what you can see in the pics it could be a genuine car with a little bit of tidying up required (make sure you have some excess budget for any immediate repairs). It's a bit of a shame that they didn't show a picture of the engine bay. Did it still have the stock air filter or an aftermarket one?

If there was no active spoiler I would be very conscientious about checking out the front end for signs of previous accident damage.

The black one is Michael McCannys car, and even though the guy is a bit of a dick, he is very fastidious about his car which I think is born out by the pictures.

Would definitely go and have a view and use it as a yard stick for comparing the silver one. You may find it's worth paying the extra.

As for the age old Jap spec vs. UK spec debate, I would say compare each car on it's merits and how it meets your individual requirements. However if there were two side by side comparable, personally I would take the UK spec because of it's higher spec and rarity.

Hi Martin

I saw the silver one last nite and as mentioned body work wise its tidy with no signs of accident or repairs..its just the rattling in the engine that puts me off although it goes just fine and does have full service history/HPI etc. and is open to offers..

Yes alot of people have been telling me about micheal cars, e.g how anal he is about it which makes me think its definately worth a look...it just whether its worth the additional2-3k...ummmm decisions!!?

I'm going to start with the black one.

1. Having an anal / the dash could be a bit more polished.... owner is always a good person to bye a car from.

2. It has the Lexus alloys Which are kinda nice.

3. The hard pipes are there for the front mount intercooler, strut brace, tasteful blue hoses and you can see it's been loved by the anal battery cover plate and the chromed clamps on the rad.... That said, he's been smart enough not to change the stock air box.

4. The sub in the boot has been done right and not cut into the car.

5. Quote: Rear centre brake light smoothing - paint has cracked due to filler shrink This is good, you'll know where to poke through to re-fit it.

Ok, ok, so I'm a fan, I like what he's done and the way he's done it.

The silver one.

1. Quote: taste full modifications to take the car to 430BHP.... I'm sorry?
This car has tasteful mods to give it an extra 104bhp and they can't be bothered to list them???

2. Are those not the alloys that appear on eBay.

3. Is there a front mounted intercooler? If not, where has the active spoiler gone?

4. Is it just the picture or is there a line on the side of the front seat?

I'm sorry but this just sounds fishy... If this is running on stock turbo's and apparently pushing out 430bhp..... I think we can guess where your slight rattle is coming from.

Question for Martin, being that your a uk driver... What would it take to get to 430bhp?

My verdict is if your going to by one of these and if your budget is there.... Go black.

Assuming crank figures, it would take a reasonable amount.

I have all the usual BPU mods, + FMIC and water injection and run about 1.4bar on highest setting and suspect i'm only around 400BHP. I think to get that extra 30BHP, you probably need to look at leaning out the fuel (so a piggy back or similar) or hybrids would definitely deliver that extra 30BHP.

Or (and the cheapest option), and most likely what's happened in the case of the silver one, take it to an inaccurate dyno.

That's a good spot (didn't notice it on my laptop screen at work) and it definitely appears as if the bottom side panel has been repaired\patched. But it could be the $hit camera they've obviously used.

That's good news !

Good condition cars are always worth that little bit extra IMO, as it saves you some £'s bringing it up to the standard you may want it to be.
