Gear box oil + decat
Hi all,
i know this has been discussed in the past but i need some help. On the service items of the twin turbo it says that the 6sp manual uses v160 and the naturaly aspirated 5sp uses Any SAE 75W-90 Gear Oil. would it be wrong to use v160 on a 5sp manual from toyota dealership? Does anyone have any instuction on how to put the oil into the gear box? Also the first decat pipe arrived (in Greece) from Paul Whiffin( Thanx Paul ) and i was wondering if anyone knows if it very difficult to install. It will be installed by an expert of exhausts but i ask because i need to know how much money they might ask for this job. |

I would not use V160 oil other than where specified as it's quite a thin oil (more like ATF) 75W-90 gearbox oil is quite common and should be readily available from most motor factors, I suspect even in Greece.
As for the first de-cat, the only potentially tricky bit (not really hard) is undoing the studs at the engine end. Even so i'd expect at worst it should be an hours labour.

As far as I'm aware Paul Wiffin is the only place that still has the now dis-continuned V160 gearbox oil, so it would be quite hard to source the oil locally.

It's a very common gearbox and diff oil, used in a lot of different makes and models of gearboxes.

Today i went to the exhaust center. They lift the car and at the first cat there was a wire connected. They told me this has to be connected to a pyrometer or something. There is no gauges in my car shown such measurments(they said to buy one like greddy, hks or blitz). Another thing the guys told me is that apparently the catalytic converter probaply doesnt work properly. So it is not a bad idea removing the cat But they have to install that wire to the new decat. And as for the temperature the said it will be less than having a catalytic converter..!

If its the wire in the cat then its a temperature sensor you don,t need to attach
it to any thing (I am assume you have JDM model) and why would the cat be faulty ? |

Is it the second CAT you are removing, the one furthest from the engine.

It is the first cat to be removed. Has already been done yesterday. The sound is just awsome and ofcourse some more response. Not very loud though(wanted some more ). As for the wire they attached it to the decat pipe. They also told me that now the temperature in that area wont be as high as with the cat on! Why i remember reverse?
