Default boost gauge

guys im looking at getting my supra a mirror face blitz boost gauge, ive read martins article on how to wire it in to the clock and ive made a carbon pod for it too,my only question is do i buy a mechanical gauge as it uses a vac line feed from the inlet .... looking at this one in whifbitz (apologies if im not allowed to post a link just meant for you to have a look?)

Mechanical vs. Electronic is always an interesting debate as both have pro's and cons. There is no right or wrong decision TBH, just more down to personal preference.

okay thanks martin ,so in the "how to" boost gauge fitment section is the gauge there that plumbs in to the clock wiring and has a single tee'd off vac line from engine bay through the bulkhead to the rear of the gauge a mechanical one?? what do you run martin?? and how does an electronic version wire in?

As the pipe runs directly to the gauge, this would indicate the gauge is mechanical as the vacuum pressure itself operates the gauge. The gauge could have a back light which would need to be illuminated, hence coming off the clock wiring. An electronic gauge (well atleast my defi one) has a little box that sits in the engine bay. This is where the vacuum pipe connects into. In this box the reading is taken and converted into an electronic signal (resistance I guess though I'm not an expert). This is then passed along the cable to the gauge where it displays the relevant reading. This sort of gauge will require a switched feed as well as a ground and illumination connection.
