I was looking at getting a helmet for track days, but i've been told they are different to bike helmets. Fire rating for starters.

Is there a standard so that i'll be able to go on any track day.

I;ve been looking on a few trackday circuit sites but all they say is you need a helmet?

Plus best place to buy one?

i'm sure a helmet is a helmet only difference is full face or either moto x style with the mouth piece

Car helmets (for racing) have a flammability requirement that's not the same for bike racing.

Take a look here for specific requirements mate. More and more track days insist on the same standards as for a race meeting so make sure it's Snell SA2005 or BS 6658-85 Type A/FR (fire retardant).

You will NEVER be allowed to use a BS 6658-85 Type B helmet (cheaper Moto-X ones which only get ACU Silver approval).

Demon Tweeks have fire retardant from £145 but as always go for the best you can afford.....

As long it's an ACU gold approved helmet track day companie's will let you wear it wether it be open faced, moto x or bike helmet. Not many actually check them to be honest.

Got myself one

KBC VR1-X TRIBAL

Had to get some smaller pads as this one came with fat pads from the one i tried.

Now got to sort some tracks day out

Went full face with an easily removable visor (clear) as i seem to end up in open top things and its difficult to breath 120+ whilst dodging stones and flys.

Most companies seem to be that price inc delivery.
I also got some other pads foc

They also do them -£10 for solid ones (you can pick some solids up a bit cheaper, but might be a year old), or +£10 for the newer designs, although I wanted a matt one with a bit of paint.

I went for KBC as they seem to be good quality, meet all the standards and at a reasonable price. I tried loads of makes and models and the KBC VR1-X fitted my bonce best.

Don’t buy a helmet without trying it on.
Its more important that it fits right. Not just being a bit tight/loose, but also pressure points. I found the very top of my head would be taking all the force on some lids. The one I picked spread the load evenly over the whole head with no point loads.

I went for the VR1-X as it fitted like a glove.
I wanted the VR2-X being a nats lighter and kevlar, although after numerous discussions with the UK and US offices regarding the composition, as they were several discrepancies on the literature (brochure, web, office, retail). The US & UK head office both disagreed with other!
Looks as if they’ve now modified their web site, saying all are TRI COMP* Shell Constructed using an advanced Vacuum Lamination System.

Still very light and meets Snell/Dot/ACU Gold. Same as higher priced more well known ones.

They're a small company mainly dealing with quads, lawn mowers and tractors, but they deal with KBC and ordered it in for me.

I thought i'd support a small firm, plus they're just up the road from my works, but none in stock/display.
