I am going to see a 1995M car (if still for sale) and ask what to look for and price guide bearing in mind it is CAT D. The seller said it has done 83K Km, imported 1999 and had 6 UK owners (guess some/none of them liked the car). I think it may be a GZ as its an auto, all leather interior and is said to have the larger discs.
The repair I am told is a new front cross member (part underneath the rad) and new rad (Toyota stickers on parts). The nose cone is said to have no damage and no sign of repair. What do you think? Could it have just hit something underneath like a boulder.
Regards, Melvyn

How long ago was the repair ?

I'd say that is quite a lot of UK owners since 1999 and i'd be very wary.

Just because its been repaired doesn't mean it should be disregarded, but if you are not a body repair specialist and even you spot evidence of the repair then walk away as its probably been fixed on the cheap. From what you are describing it sounds like it could of run over something or rear ended another driver.

On the face of it sounds a bit fishy, but if the price is low enough it may be worth looking at.

Martin,
The repair was I think about a year ago and registered as a V car this april but not dislosed/noted to present owner, so he says. Someone wanted to purchase car, did an hpi check and having found out cat D rejected it, so price has been reduced to 6K but I am thinking this is still too much to pay. Will be difficult to shift I expect if it turns out to be a lemon but could just be a bargain. Do you know if you can research out the repairs on Cat D's?
Many thanks, Melvyn

Nope CAT D's tend to be very light damage but the insurance company thinks its not economical to repair. I think the only way you'd be able to find information is to trace back through the owners and then try to contact the one that had the work done, not going to be a quick process.

However CAT D tends to mean no structural damage which is obviously good. I would say the price is fair if the car is in pretty good condition, if its a bit rough around the edges then its too much considering the history.

You've highlighted a good point though, you may be stumped if you ever want to sell the car on.
