Default Limited choice of tyres

I’m in need of some new tyres but only seem to be able to source 3 different makes.

Falken FK-452 £133ea
Toyo Proxes T1-Sport £186ea
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 £249ea

Front: 235/45/17
Rear: 265/40/17

I’ve got the 452’s at the moment and had them before and been ok, but this set has lost all its grip and I’ve still a few mm left. I’ve had it twitch a few times and the traction light flicks on quite easily.

I had the 1st generation of the Toyos proxes T1 which were good but picked up every stone, albeit the tread (and probably the compound now) has totally changed.
The Pilots just seem average in performance and don’t seem to justify the extra £260 for the set.

Has anyone had the Toyo’s or know of any others please?

Many thanks
Stephen

Wow, just checked two websites and as you say not much choice on the rear tyres

Just checked Kwik Fit online and they list a Pirelli P-zero in the rear size. May be an option.

You seem to have upsized a little there from the standard size I noticed. I had always used the Goodyear Eagle F1s on the Supra and when I bought the M3 replaced the Michelin Pilot Sports with the Goodyear Asymmetrics.

With the Pilot Sports I would have difficulty in getting away from roundabouts in the wet, something I never had in the Supra. The Goodyears just squat down the rear and launch the car. They only break loose when I want them too.

Cheers guys.

With the original 3 I’d plump for the Toyo’s but the PZeros albeit Coras rears and Rosso fronts – nice find thank you Martin.
I don’t know why I didn’t try KF. I just kept browsing Google (surprised that didn’t pick them up?)

Only concern is using a different model front and rear. I’d prefer to run the same all round ideally.
Tempted with the PZeros but my brain is niggling saying keep the same all-round…..

Per Set
Falken FK-452 £464.30
Toyo Proxes T1-Sport £604.96
PZero Rosso/Coras £633.46
Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s/2’s £780.46

Thank you.

Fronts http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m54b0s312p0

Rears http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m54b0s320p0

Toyo's here come to £485.06 delivered for all 4

I'm on my 3rd set of them from here and will be going here for my next set. I then give a local garage £10 per tyre for fitting and balance.

Happy Days!

Oops, my bad! I've listed sports for the fronts and T1-R for the rears.
T1-R's are currently out of stock for the fronts but cheaper than the sports by £10 if they were in stock.

Thanks for that.
You obviously find them ok then?
Have you tried others as well in comparison?

I had Pirelli when I bought it, they were ok, chucked out a lot of stones.
I then put Dunlop sport maxx on.... not sure what the maxx was for? maximum pants soiling probably.
I think this is my second or third set of T1-r's I managed to spin the dunlops up at 60mph in the damp going straight, I've buried the Toyo's in a straight line from stationary with the wipers on max and the road soaking and nothing. just launch like it was a dry day.

Have a look at the reviews here. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Toyo/

Bare in mind the sports have only been reviewd 3 times compared to the T1-R's 122.

Hmmm the PZero Rosso get absolutly slated. Toyos seem favourite then.

I need to change my rears but my normal Toyo T1R's are unavalible at my usual place and overpriced at everywhere else.

I'm thinking about trying these.

They got a good review at the link I posted in post 8
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vr...c-Sessanta.htm

Isn't it a bit odd that it doesn't matter that the tread is reversed from one side of the car to the other?
