Porter Cable 7424
After hammering my debit card a bit last week I thought I'll show you my new toys.....
However just one small problem as you can see.... This should do the trick.... Now as the transformer safety instructions state 'Ensure that the transformer is situated close to the 240v outlet supply. An extension cable should only be used on the 110v side of the transformer' I also got myself a couple of extension cables. The bottom one gets me to my car from the flat and the other one gets me round the car. |

Got to change that plug.
Bye Bye warranty...
As you can see the U.S. use different colours to our mains cables. Quick search on the web comes up with Black : LIVE White : NEUTRAL So on goes the new plug... Sorted... Right come this saturday its goodbye to cobweb scratches and hello shine. Hope this helps anyone else who's getting a PC 7424. Although you could get a transformer that has a U.S. socket on it they do seam to be double the price of a site transformer. |

I'd definitely want a site transformer. It's got to be safer.
How much do you reckon you spend in total on all that? Where did you get it from? I'm getting one for Christmas and I can't wait.

What VA rating is best? 1.5KVa or 750Va? Come to think about it, what the hell is a Va anyway?

Hiya,
Getting as close to 1kva (I don't know what a va is either etc lol.....), is recommended. Anything over that is just a safety margin..... Apparently the PC can draw up to 750va on start up but then settles once up to speed..... Now yours should be fine (well you've been using it with no probs).... it's just that some people were using very cheap US plug type adapters with a transformer built in which can get overloaded and as far as I'm aware all it will do is cut the machine out. I may not be 100% accurate but thats the general gist of why you go for arond the 1kva mark when getting a a transformer. Cheers. Alex.

Va = Volts per Amp, its a power rating instead of Watts.
750Va = you can draw 1Amp @ 750v or 2Amps @ 375v, etc, etc.

Got the PC from Autopia went for the SFX kit (PC 7424, 6" DAS flexplate, 3 SFX pads of different grades 1-3, 2 DAS buffing bonnets , free guide to detailing on cd and paintwork cleanser) this was $200 (£104).
The tranformer I got from LAWSON-HIS for £37.80 with vat & carriage total was £51.47. Also got extra pads,different grades of polish,wax,wool mit etc not sure on grand total for every thing (may be best). I went for 1.5kva first as Alex said for a safety margin and second it will allow me to use other equipment as well such as lights. I can't see the cobwebbing on my car on an overcast day but they show up clear as day under Tesco carpark lights. |

Thanks for the info guys.
I'm going to go for a 1.5 Kva unit. They're only ~£45. And I'll definitely be getting the kit from Autopia.
