Hi
Im not having much luck at the mo! Ive not had my car for 7 months now, its been laid up getting a respray and engine rebuild. I finally got my car back today and im getting some problems??

1, the engine warning light keeps coming on then it switches off? (small orange)

2, The engine keeps cutting out on me? as if ive stalled the car (but its an auto??)

3, before the engine idled and it was very quietbut now its really noisey? it used to idle at approx 500rpm now it fluxuates between 1000rpm - 1700rpm??

Anyone got any ideas??im Phoneing the company first thing tomorrow to say a few things and to get them to sort it, i just have a feeling there a bunch of cowboys and i dont wanna get b/s again!!! (i wish i had gone to a supra specialist now) Does anyone know of anywhere that i can go and get the sup checked?
cheers
james

First thing i'd be checking is to see if they'd cashed my check

Then probably the engine grounds.

How the hell can any decent garage hand back a car to a customer in that state !

as i said they are a bunch of cowboys, i have more problems which i have to mention,

4,when i got it back it felt like i had 2 flat tyres. when i had a mate check today he thinks the driveshaft or steering column has gone as there is so much movement in the steerin wheel!

5,I had a brand new stereo (clarion ?450) fitted days before going in, now they have lost the front removeable panel so i cant use it!

6,The middle glove compartment between the drivers seats was in mint condition, now it looks like they didnt know how to open it and its been wrenched off! just sat there with no hinges!

I wish i had checked all of this infront of the owner when i had picked it up, i was late for work and by the time i realised the state of the car they were closed so roll on 9am tomorrow.

I'd accecpt nothing less than the condition it was in when you gave it to them. Stand your ground & make them rectify the situation.
Not sure if you're in a trade union or not, but mine has a free legal help line with advice on absolutely anything. 1st stop before taking any legal action (if it comes to that).
If you don't have access to such advise, PM me with all details & I'll find out what I can for you on where you stand & what you can do about it.

thank you

just to update,

when i phoned them they didnt want to know until i told them i cancelled the cheque, i got sworn at and threatened and when i explained that im not paying till the problems were rectified they came to my work and collected the sup within 30min and sorted all the problems. im obveously still annoyed with them and i still had to pay full price!

Today i came home thinking things had blown over and i wont have anymore problems, then i saw my mail. They had sent me a copy of the invoice and it was written on there

" work was carried out to original manufacturer spec, as the vehicle has hybrid turbos (which they supplied and fitted previously) they will not warrenty the engine because it is not standard spec "

So now not only have i been p****d about for 7 months but now i have spent thousands on an engine rebuild which is not guarenteed! Through all the dealings ive had with them they have always said they will warrenty the engine! otherwise id be mad to pay that money with no guarentee!

I have the car booked in with them on the 29th of this month to fit the boost controller they supplied to me over a year ago and never fitted and has been twice payed for (another long story). Im really not happy about taking it back there especially now they wont guarentee the engine because god only knows what they will do to it! The saga continues....

Booked in again !!!!! Don't be silly sir.
I get annoyed with my garage when they take so damn long sometimes, but they workmanship is pretty good. If they give you grief like this i think it's time to say byebye.

Good on you !

I wouldn't worry about the warranty so much as you still have rights as a paying customer, and if something falls apart due to poor workmanship they are still liable. However trying to prove it may be quite hard.

But the fact that they are not confident enough in their own work to warranty it sends a strong message to me.

Time to look for another tuner i think.

I have another tuner lined up AMautotech?? they will look at it for me and fit the controller etc

MartinF - They used a contracter to do the main rebuild,i know their number as i have their advert but not to hand or id tell u the company name, but ive spoken to the guy who carried out the work and ive heard fantastic reports about him (and the company) but as i said hes a contracter and i havent dealt with them personally.

Aren't the garage you take it to able to do the work themselves ?!? Doesn't say much for their ability.

Not all garages do engine rebuilds in house a lot of them sub it out because they don't do rebuilds very often so hence no point having the skills and tools surplus 70% of the time.

Glad you have it all sorted supercharged lets hope your new guys are a bit more on the ball.
