You normally get a tick from behind the dash when the mast is fully down or up.
I would think the motor measures resistance and shuts off. I think I would get someone to switch on the stereo and physically help the Aerial up, then grease it and try it again. That's just my aproach, but don't blame me if it goes wrong. |

On closer inspection I have seen that water has got into the bottom power connection well I think that’s what it is.
There is what looks like rust around the mail and female connections and the rust has run down the side of thee main body of the aerial

What sometimes happens is the cogs get stripped off the plastic material that enables the mask to go up and down.
If you have removed the boot trim to get to the aerial, it might be worth having a listen to see if you can hear the motor turning, if so like Gambit suggested, try helping the mask up. It's not a massive job removing the aerial. It might also be an idea to remove the rust off the connectors with some sand paper. You can get replacement masks from Toyota, I think off the top of my head they are about £30.
