Default Stock Amp

I'm aware that there is a stock amp under the passengers seat but I remember reading years ago that some people need to leave this plugged in, inorder for their stereo to work. Why is this? I have disconnected mine as I followed the cables into the dash and none were connected to the new stereo. This is what I have taken out:

My only concern was there was a wire plugged into it which doesn't go to the dash, it going into the wiring loom under the passengers door seal. Can anyone tell me what it does please? Here's the cable I'm referring to:

Next question Had anyone or know of anyone who's fitted a small amp in the same place as the OEM amp to power the front two speakers only?

Hi kev

I know that there are two ISO adapters you can get, one that will bypass the stock amp and another that uses the stock amp.

I,m guessing a bit but the stock head unit feeds the amp which feeds the speakers so may be they are for the speakers ?

Thing is Rob, my head unit has worked fine as I used the adaptor, and none of the wires for the loom I removed were connected so I don't think it can be for those.

I know the wiring for the boot high level light goes down the passenger side, what about the boot sub. That would be my guess.
