Matt, I think I know you well enough by now to know this is something you haven't decided lightly, your reasons are things I'm sure we all sit down from time to time and ponder.

"Better the devil you know" springs to mind, sure if you go down the newer Supra route you will have a newer car but will it be any better because of that fact, certainly in terms of power it won't. Like most of us you have spent your years of ownership striving to improve your car, you know it's good and bad points and from where I'm sitting you have a good solid car from which to work from.

I appreciate time and family issues but as mentioned earlier in the thread, why not pay to have the work done, there are some very good, skilful people out there. I'm not suggesting one big wallet drain but more of an ongoing thing, that way you can set realistic goals, and each goal being a step closer to your ideal car. Sure you don't get the satisfaction of doing the work yourself but as you are time poor it's seems the better option rather than the possibility of a newer Supra which still might not be exactly what you want.

I know I have concentrated on the "Supra" side of your post and certainly if you feel that you have worked the Supra through your system (I'm not convinced that you have ) then perhaps another make and model might be the answer.

Whatever you decide Matt I wish you the very best of luck and may I just say that it will be a sad day to loose such a great bloke from the Supra owning community should you decide to try another brand/route.

Here's where I'm at with the decision making progress.

Option 1 - 2002 Supra NA Auto
I sooooo wish I could get the 6-speed manual because that, for me, would make this the only option. The auto box on the SZ is not the same as the one on the TT and I really don't know how it will feel compared to mine. I could live with the power loss for a manual box. Not sure I can with another auto box. Don't know for sure on this though, need some advice from someone with an auto SZ.

Option 2 - 350Z
This is not greatly viable but it being considered. It means spending 16K+ which isn't ideal. Plus there are reliability issues.

Option 3 - Impreza
If I want a 3-4 year old car, and I want something I can at least get a couple of kids in as well then I'd got for the Impreza. Probably a WRX, but maybe an STi. I wouldn't be embarrassed owning one but I certainly wouldn't consider it an inspirational purchase. Budget for this would be 12-14K.

Option 4 - FTO
I've had one before and quite like them. Maximum budget would be 5-6K and it would have to be immaculate and a fresh import. If one came up I'd probably have this over the Impreza or 350Z because the budget is much smaller and it would be a decent runabout.

.
.
.

But here's the thing that is sticking in my mind...

I had a conversation with my wife after chatting about the Impreza. She pointed out the cost and said "If you're spending that much on a car you want to be passionate about it don't you? You're not really fussed about the Impreza are you?"

And she's right, the answer is NO, I'm not at all passionate about the Impreza. So what car AM I passionate about?

Errrr....... The obvious and truthful answer is the SUPRA.

In fact if I were going to stick my neck out it's for a black Supra, with tons spent on it making it feel almost like new and a feck-off huge single turbo under the bonnet running 500-600 bhp. That's my perfect Supra. The TT comes a very close second though.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Thanks for your kind comments Barney.

No, I certainly havn't worked the Supra through my system. Not by along way. And that's the problem. My Supra ownership at the moment is marred by having a car which I seems to sort out all the little problems and can't get the big one's fixed.

Truth be told I still like Supras as much as I always did. Probably more so. The problem is that my car is a long way from where I want it to be and I don't believe it ever will be.

It sounds like you're where I am in terms of jobs vs time and money. I was trying to get every niggle sorted ASAP and it was literally bleeding me dry.

What I've done is get a cheap runaround. It saves me a lot, especially with fuel as expensive as it is right now. Whether this would work in your case I don't know, but it meant I could relax, put the Supe on a backburner and gradually work my way through the jobs as and when possible, with no pressure to keep the car driveable or spend money I don't have.

IMO If you get rid now you'll soon have just as long a list with the new car. The Supra on the other hand is a known car with no surprises and what you might have achieved with it if you'd hung on will bug you in time.

Finally I was ruthless on whether jobs/work was necessary. These are now 10 year old + cars and is perfection, while achieveable, worth the cost? Even brand new cars have issues, so maybe a change of perspective is needed?

My stated goal was and always will be perfection. I can't help it, that's just what I want. What I really want is a brand new Supra but that's not possible.

Just got off the phone to a car importer and it's helped alot... I reckon I'm closer to a decision on the next car.

Nice car but not my cup of tea.

No, my next car will most likely be Supra shaped.
