Default Error code 12 :-(

Hi guys, as the title says really.
I have an import NA, it was off the road for some time due to gearbox issues. Now that has (I think) been resolved, the car has decided to spit it's dummy out and won't start. IF and WHEN it does, it seems to idle fine, but any revs, it struggles to reach the 2k mark and coughs and splutters and farts. I've swapped out the full distributor and replaced the ignition coil already.
Many thanks
Shaun

Hi & Welcome.

You mention in your thread title 'Error Code 12', is that one that you've read from the car? If so I think that may very well be related to your issue.

This can be the crank sensor or cam shaft sensor and the best way to start diagnosing (apart from a visual check) would be to look for the signal from each back at the ECU.

Thanks for the welcome
Yeah I did the code check from the car itself. Apparently I'm told that all those sensors are all a part of the distributor. Which as I mentioned I've swapped out.
Two people have just suggested a possible loom problem, if so, I'm at a loss as I have no knowledge of electronics of a car

There is definitely a separate crank sensor and there is a know fault where the toothed plate becomes detached from the crank pulley. Definitely worth checking.
