Unhappy OS Giken Triple Plate Clutch

Hi Guys
I have bitten the bullet and bought a new os giken triple plate clutch for my big single mkiv to replace the similar one that is already on the car but my mechanic tells me that the existing clutch whilst being quite worn would work o.k if there was more travel on the slave cylinder. Has anyone experienced or heard of this problem before and does anyone know how to get around it perhaps with a different slave cylinder?

I thought one of the advantages of the OS giken clutches was the fact that they could be rebuilt once worn out, hence justifying some of the initial cost.

You can extend the rod if you're ingenious enough and have access to a machine shop or similar tools. You could also modify the fork by welding it at the point where the push rod touches, but it's a bit extreme (although I know people who have done it).
