Default Touching Up Stone Chips

I have an annoying chip in the paint on my front bumper, which I have tried to touch up with the correct pen from Halfords. However it's far to dark.
I realise paint work fades, but this is silly. Can anyone suggest a better way of touching this chip up or explain to me where I'm going wrong.
Thanks,

Take it to a spray man and tell him to sort it, it's the best way.

True but a little pricey for one stone chip.
Well the real reason is I've banned myself from any spray shop. I'd end up getting a full respray

i would try and paint in the chip not the surrounding area of good paint too much,by doing this 5-10 times letting each go hard inbetween coats you will hopefully be able to flush in the paint build up in the chip with some say p800- p 1500 wet "n" dry then a good rubbing compound will flat and polish out the rest of the chip so you wont be able to see it ! good luck and dont flat too far or you may get primer kev eeeek

Kev, you really need a decent paint match to start with, I would suggest Toyota for this, then follow Jay's recommendations (be careful with the rubbing back as you don't want to mark the surrounding paintwork)

Getting an exact paint match is never going to be easy but I have found OEM touch up sticks to generally more reliable.

Failing the diy route some of these mobile "chips away" type firms have got reviews as to solving this type of thing, not hugely expensive so I'm led to believe.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's only a real small mark, and the touch up stuff I have is real lumpy.

GVN, don't get me started

I managed to get some Toyota touch up paint. I'm very impressed with the colour match. It's 100 times better than the Halfords touch up paint. Highly recommended!

Yeah, I have a Toyota touch up pen for my car and the consistency of the paint is much better as well.

i was told by my local toyota dealer that quite a few colour's[touch up/spray] were been discontinued, due to the new regulations on paint, this was end of last year! also little tip when touching in small chip's,instead of using brush, use a darning needle with small amount of paint on the end.more precise & can build up finer layers & no brush markes

Thanks Glenn. The pen was on the shelf stock, so maybe it's old stock?
