Ttc
What would be the long term effect mostly negative on the engine if one went down the TTC route without remapping and having a piggy back ecu to sort the fueling and ignition?
I have a friend who did none of the above and the car runs fine after 2 years. Cheers.

I can't actually think of any problems that could be created by running TTC long term.

Hi Martin,
What I ment to say was my friend went for TTC mod but he did not remap the car nor did he go for a piggy ecu to sort the fueling and ignition and the car runs fine after 2 years since he did the mod. I am a great fan of the TTC. In fact on track days I switch to the TTC by swapping the hoses and put up faster times than the sequential mode. I want to go the TTC route permanently but I do not want to remap the car nor get a piggy back ecu. Hence the mention of my friend. Would the ecu not self adjust the timing and fueling after learning for sometime? When I go for the TTC mode I do not get black smoke (overfueling) and the car runs perfectly. I just want to be sure that I would not damage the engine without the remap and piggy back ecu. A lot of people have diffrerent views on this and it would be nice to have yours as you are an expert on the MKIV. Cheers.

I think the ECU will learn some settings which will negate the need for a piggy back and should mean the car is no less reliable than standard BPU.
However a lot of peoples experience when going single and using a stock ECU with piggy back is that they struggle to tune around the 3,500 o 4,000rpm point where in a standard car the second turbo would come online. That would lead me to believe that the base map in the ECU is optimised for this point and hence why people struggle to tune around it. Bearing that in mind you may find when in TTC mode and just running off a stock ECU that tuning is not optimised at this point. Optimised and potentially causing damage to the engine are obviously two different things and I really don't think you run any risk of damage. However an easy way to be sure, to be sure, to be sure would be to put the car on a dyno in TTC mode and monitor AFR.

I will just get the car remapped and leave the stock ECU as it is.
Many thanks for your info, Martin. Cheers.

But there lays a problem as there are very few people (none in the UK AFAIK) who can access and alter the stock ECU
