Default Changed my plugs.

As the title says.

For reasons unknown I fitted IK24 plugs. These are for hybrid and singles....?

This is how they looked. The plug closest to the bulkhead was finger tight, at best and covered in oil...

New plugs: NGK Iridium BKR7EIX.

Good job done ! Have you noticed a big difference in how the car drives now?

IK24's are a touch too cold for BPU cars (see here: http://www.mkivsupraownersclub.com/f...ead.php?t=9812) and it may be with the winter temps that you've noticed things a bit more.

That oil on the rear plug is most likely because the cam covers are loose as they seem to work loose at the rear first. Just check the bolts and try re-tightening if loose, if that doesn't work then you'll need to replace all the seals including the washers with their rubber rings bonded to them. The rubber can harden with age and doesn't make such a good seal.

It seems to get moving faster, pre boost.

The oil was on the thread, with a smidge on the bottom of the coil pack. So I'd say oil was getting into the cylinder...?

That's impossible as if that was the case you'd have no compression in the cylinder (think about it).

It's coming from above.

Yeah, guess that would be worse than just the tapping noise I get under load.

ok, I had a look today and the only oil I could find round the back of the engine was on a hose...
The hose is this one. 22233-46010 Can be seen here. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_199...JPZZ_2211.html

Did you check how tight the cam cover bolts were? (Don't overtighten them or you risk cracking the covers).

The only realistic way you could have oil around that pipe is that if it was coming from inside of it and leaking out a little. Oil in the intake system is possible if your PCV valve is not working properly or your turbo oil seals are starting to leak. To check just take either the hose to the throttle body off or the one which goes from the turbos to the drivers side wing and see if there is much oil inside. A thin coating is fine, but a large amount highlights a problem.

Ok, I took the turbo out hose off and took some pictures, starting in the cast turbo side, then 1 down the plastic wing pipe and finally a couple down the hose...

I did the diagnostics te1 and e1 check.
Engine symbol flashes constantly, over drive off light flashes 42 and 89.

Code 42 will probably be my speedo converter. I think it had a dodgy earth and from time to time I would find the speedo needle not moving.

The inside of those hoses look fine, a lot better than some I've seen

Check the cam cover seals.

I changed the seals back in 2008 http://www.mkivsupraownersclub.com/f...ight=cam+cover

I need a jointed socket to get at the back bolts, I'll check them when possible.

I just reset the ecu and went for a couple of miles..

since doing the plugs the car runs great and idles like a new car. Only issue is the bloody annoying "tinging" noise when I accelerate, it's doing my head in! The more you rev the faster it "tings", but the car drives good and with plenty of power. My m8 (who is usually right) says it's internal. But I'm still not convinced it's not something rattling....
