On my dashboard I have little lights which indicate which gear I've got selected. i.e. L, 2, D, N, R, P
When the car is in Drive I don't get a light under the D though. (There seems to be a space for a light though) Has mine been disconnected (or blown) or is this normal? p.s. As an aside, my Landcruiser has the same lights and I get a little green light next to the D when the car's in D.

There is a light that should come on. Leeky on here replaced his himself a few months back, so it may be worth getting in touch with him if you want to fix it.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have to learn how to take my dashboard to pieces because there's a few things I want to get sorted now.

In order:
Disconnect battery negative Top part of dash (small strip with hazzards, tacho etc..) - 5 screws Speedo, revs fascia (just pull, carefully) then either LHS or RHS of steering wheel (just pull) - you may not need to remove these 2, I've not taken out the speedo section before so try & see.

Would disconnecting the battery affect an alarm/immobiliser?

Not adversly, when I reconnect it mine blares until I turn it off. You do need to disconnect it though if you start unclipping connectors behind the dash, will you will need to to remove the dash parts more than an inch.
Also, disconnecting will reset the ecu & give a low idle (~400rpm) on first start up. I always hold the revs at 1k5 for a while, drive & warm the engine then give it a WOT blast. The idle is fine after that.
