I think you may struggle to find wheels in a 23 offset, but should be OK with 25. Going to 10" on the rear is definitely a good idea.

How often do you need new tyres?

Wouldn't a wider tyre reduce acceleration through friction...?

I think that is wishful thinking on the more grip therefore less wear. A wider tyre won't necessarily reduce acceleration it depends if the overall diameter of the wheel\tyre changes. Which can obviously happen if you fit a wider tyre with the same profile, mind you it's probably marginal.

I too like the idea of 11" wheels with 295's, have you managed to look at any prices for wheels yet?

How would adjusting my offset or even putting a size 10 on the front effect the car? Cornering, turn circle... general drive?

At the moment with full left lock the tyre rubs against the smic arch vents when in reverse, this is due to my oversized smic stretching the plastic cover.

Well it will definitely be effected, but i'm not sure i'm expert enough to give you all the answers. Wider wheels will obviously offer more grip where fitted and so could increase over steer if fitted at the front, but suspension and traction is the sum of many parts so you may be able to dial some of this out if you adjust the camber.
