Is the play in the rubber bush, or the ball joint?
Also are you 100% sure it's the upper arm that's worn?

Well if it's the bushes, then you can obtain aftermarket ones but that will necessitate doing both sides and they aren't very easy to do DIY.
If it's the ball joint then the only option is to swap the arm. On balance i'd say the best option is to shop around for a new arm (could try to ship from US if you have time, but the rate is not great at the mo) and swap it out.

No, no adjustment on the top arm (IIRC).
It's remove the old one and bolt in the new one, but............... with the age of our cars, the top bolts could be rusted inside the bushes. Try spraying in Plusgas(or similar) overnight before you expect to do the job. The only other issue will be access to those bolts, which I can't remember how good it is.
